Perfect experience to learn about the BVI and kayak through the mangroves. Alex was great and the ride with Freeman gave us a historical perspective of the islands.
Spectacular tour

My husband and I had a fantastic morning kayaking through the mangroves. It was really calm and the water was crystal clear. We saw lots of fish and jellyfish as well as brief views of eagle ray and turtles. Alex was a very knowledgeable guide and is clearly passionate about mangrove biology and conservation. We would 100% return and do the tour again to see what else we find!
Learn about Tortola from an expert local and enjoy nature while you’re doing it.

Cruisers, this excursion isn’t on the approved list but it’s a fantastic outing for able-bodied adults and kids. We went against the ship’s “stick with us” and it was completely worth it. You will get back with plenty of time to shop or he offers to drop you off at a nearby beach. Alex is passionate about the ecosystem so the tour is both seriously informative and mindful of our impact. We planted mangrove seeds, learned about hurricane impact, saw a pup lemon shark, many birds, beautiful jellyfish that look like Queen Anne’s lace - all from kayaks. Alex can talk at length about BVI, surfing, journalism AND the mangroves. Take sunscreen, a protected camera, water and your beach clothes. Highly recommend getting off that typical tour bus and going for it. Thank you, Alex, for making our visit memorable.
Highly recommended Hike and Paddle

This was by far the highlight of my trip. The mangrove paddle is amazing but even more so is the hike! The trail is created by Alex himself and provides a little bit of everything. It is a hard hike so do not enter thinking it will be easy. But worth it! Alex is a great guy, easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend

My family and I recently stopped on the Island of Tortola while cruising with Norwegian Cruise Lines. Our daughter is a marine biology at the University of Washington so we thought this particular excursion would be perfect for us. First off, I want to point out that Alex was an outstanding host, tour guide, naturalist, historian, educator, humble human being.
Alex met us at the cruise terminal and after a short drive we arrived at a beach where our kayaks were waiting for us. My 18 and 15 year old daughters, my wife and I followed Alex into the mangroves where he educated us on the fragility of this amazing ecosystem but he also detailed it’s incredible perseverance. Alex explained how Hurricane Irma delivered incredible damage to the island and coastline however we learned the strength of Mother Nature and how life finds a way after the most extreme conditions. Alex (a lifelong resident of Tortola) was part tour guide, historian, naturalist, educator, and overall wonderful human being. He is sought out by University professors because of his opinions, experience, perception, knowledge, and observations of this amazing ecosystem. His insight has proven to be invaluable to their research. During this trip we handled jellyfish, learned about different types of algae, discussed different types of mangroves, replanted mangroves, and discussed the true power and strength of nature’s will to survive. We definitely plan on returning to Tortola and look forward to joining Alex again, even if it’s for a cup of coffee at Beans.
Excellent activity and would recommend to all.
